Biography
Lila Marin grew up in Bend, Oregon, learning guitar on her grandmother's living room floor before moving to Portland at nineteen to study composition at Reed College. Her first EP, Pale Signal (2019), was recorded in a borrowed bedroom studio and found an audience through college radio and Bandcamp tastemakers, earning her a slot at SXSW the following spring.
Her debut full-length, Open Water (2020), arrived during the quietest year in living memory and was described by The Wire as "headphone music of unusual grace — sparse arrangements given vast interior space." A second album, Mineral Light (2022), added electronic textures and live drums, pushing her sound toward warmer, more rhythmic territory. Stereogum named it one of the 50 Best Albums of the year.
Drift (2024), her third studio record, was entirely self-released on her own imprint, Shallow Lake Recordings. It entered the CMJ Top 200 at #34 and generated the viral single "Glass House Season," which crossed 4 million Spotify streams. She has since toured with Novo Amor, Big Thief, and Arooj Aftab, and appeared on NPR's Tiny Desk.
